Camp Geronimo

Jakob and I went camping this weekend. We headed up early Friday, and had our tent all setup and relaxing at the campground by 3. The rest of the Cub Scouts arrived around 7. The next day we headed off to various activities. The comprised of panning for gold, bar room fighting, axe and knife throwing, home made bottle rockets, and starting fires with no matches. Jakob, and his friends Markus and Sam were the fastest scouts starting their fire. For this they won a bag of candy to split among them.

Saturday afternoon after the awards ceremony it started to sprinkle, and then an hour later it started raining buckets. It continued for hours, so the parents decided to pack it up and head for home. By the time the camp was packed, the creek we crossed to the camp ground has risen from 6 inches to 3+ feet. Since everything was packed wet, there was no recovery. We parked the car and trucks and packed the essentails and hiked to the dinning hall and sleep with a bunch of other scouts that were in the same boat.

It rained all night.

In the morning, the creek was back to a normal height. The banks were very muddy. I hung out and watch the 2 4x4 trucks trucks cross the creek to see the condition of the mud and the water. I decided that the Volvo was up to the challenge. So with lots of onlookers the Volvo leaped across the creek in a single bound, and we were on the road to home.
