APS - Phoenix West

One of the dads of the scouts works as the planet manager for APS’ West Phoenix power generation station. The plant was doing a major overhaul of one of the generators so we got a rare look inside of the turbine. We spent 3 hours looking at all of the equipment, including the “Homer Simpson” controller room. It is amazing how they have engineered the plat to recoup all of the waste of the turbine process and convert it to energy. The only waste that can not be recovered is the minerals that are removed from the water.

We then trekked down to Tucson to see my Mom and sister Sarah. There was a major accident on I-10 so we took a little detour through the town of Sacaton. The town of Sacaton was having an Iwo Jima celebration. I believe that Ira Hayes was from the town of Sacaton.
